An installation ceremony was held on June 8, 2008 at the River Oaks Country Club for incoming officers and directors of the New Fairfield Lions Club for the 2008-2009 year. Lion Suzanne Kerner was elected as Club President. Suzanne has been an active member of the New Fairfield Lions Club since May 2003. The following Lions were installed as the New Fairfield Lions Club new officers and directors: Suzanne Kerner – President Mike Gillotti – Secretary Mike Berenberg – Treasurer Zachary Macinski – 1st VP Tim Haas – 2nd VP Joseph Viola, Jr. – 3rd VP Directors Kim Redenz Terry Froehlich James Trotta Wayne Van Treuren Reggie Lambrech Chris Pepin Krystyna Kappas – Tail Twister John Rooney – Lion Tamer The Club was honored to have Michael Del Re, Jr., President of the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation and Rose Marie Spatafore, Connecticut Lions District 23A Governor as our guests. Lion Mike presented the Knight of the Blind award to New Fairfield Lion member James Trotta and District Governor Rose Marie conducted the Installation of the new officers and directors. Since the Club’s chartering in 1952, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as the annual 4th of July Parade, senior citizen picnic, antique car show, Breakfast with Santa, senior holiday luncheon, Easter Egg Hunt, and Girl Scout Camp cleanup. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to provide scholarships to graduating seniors, support of local sport leagues, sponsoring the Leos Club, School Wish List, disaster relief, support for local needy families, and contributions to local and national organizations focusing on services for the blind and research to prevent blindness. The New Fairfield Lions Club has 40 plus members and meets on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7pm at Biscotti’s. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
