The New Fairfield Lions Club was out in force
immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit the shores of the Gulf Coast. In
addition to making the first sizeable donation of bottled water (80 cases!),
members assisted in the staffing of the Hurricane Relief Drop-Off Center at
Heritage Plaza, and donated their time, equipment and trucks to load and
transport donations to the State Armory. On our first weekend of “shaking the
can”, generous residents and businesses in New Fairfield opened their hearts and
wallets – donating over $3,500! The tax deductible donations continued to pour
in to the New Fairfield Lions Foundation, and on September 27th,
Lions President Gail Redenz presented the first $7,000 raised for Katrina Relief
to Connecticut Lions 23A District Governor Bill Carrello.
